Hi everyone, I realise this could be a slightly taboo subject for the forum so I apologise. I make no secret about my own struggles with my mental health, for the most part now I consider myself stable and well adjusted. One thing that really helps me is helping other people.
I’ve been thinking a lot over the last few months and have decided that I would like to train as a counsellor, for me I’d like to specialise in mental health, depression, anxiety etc..

Is anyone on the forum a trained counsellor, or considered going down that road and could give me some help/advice/pointers etc?

If you can, please send me a pm.

    thanks
    L

    Nice one.

the best counsellors are the ones who have lived it, not read a book about it.

good luck, your 90% there already.

Liam, while I commend you in your honesty about personal issues, and your willingness to help others who possibly could be in the same kind of situation as yourself once was. Me on the other hand feel I could not discuss issues I've had to deal with in my lifetime, believe me I've had some shit to deal with and to be honest I've dealt with it on my own, I guess I'm old school "get on with it" whether that is the way to deal with it or not is another question, but for me it kind of works.
If in what your doing helps one person then I guess it makes the effort to listen to others worthwhile.

Good on you for trying to make a difference to others who need help !

Thanks guys, been looking into it - id need to do 4 years of night schooling then 100 hours + of training to even start, not feasible at the minute so will give it a couple of years. I never spoke about my struggles and I still hide them away from family and friends but I do talk about mental health in general and the struggles we face. No one should feel ashamed of how their head works.
