Well fitted my K&N's yesterday and tried to start her up to see what she sounded like and the battery was dead :( so plugged her into the trickle charger for 24 hours and tried again, turns once then dies!
So I obviously need a new battery but the question is what makes to avoid and what best to get??

Can't afford to spend alot so don't want to get best around and no point getting really light racing one as I'm a gram or too overweight myself so not gonna make a huge difference

Yuasa everyday of the week for me, quality and you can pick them from ebay cheap rather than the high street. I got the last for my old 7R and cost me £42, even had the japanese writing on it and not english !

It's been a bit dodgy for the last year, would die if not started for 2 days

I guess im lucky as its well known the 08 batteries dont pack much of a puch anyway, but mine had not been started for nearly 4 months and still had enough life in it to start (just)

The evil bay yes. Bought it for the Sp as it needs a good bit of cranking power.

Trickle charger? I have got one but battery been dodgy a while, if not on the trickle it wouldn't start after 2 days which was fine as just plugged in each time but now it saves enough juice for one turn then dead lol

they are more battery conditioners (whatever the fuck that means...)but keep the battery at its optimum V.

it's not so much the standing that kills batteries,it's the cold

Yeah mine has not been able to start the bike after a week and a half of no riding...

So this morning, I started it, it started fine, took the bike outside, locked up everything, turned her off, went for my helmet and gloves and then she would not start again...

Had to push it up a little hill and jump start in second.... i am getting good at that. Happened about a month ago as well...

My old 600F would start after a month sitting in winter...

They have charging 'programmes' Martin, so it will give a heavy charge for X amount of time then a trickle charge, then a pulsed charge, then a rest period etc. etc. It makes certain that each cell tops up equally. I'm generalising as I don't really understand how the cycling works, but that the main idea of it. It also takes feedback from the battery itself so it can adjust its programming accordingly.

They are a marmite product, with many fans and an equal amount of detractors but I swear by mine and the consensus of those who are for them agree that the Optimate is the favourite.

    Expensive?

Matrix that's how mine started then got worse and worse until the point it would on a full charge turn engine once max! Got stranded a couple of times so that was enough :)

Understood. I will keep an eye on mine from now see if it gets any worse, I must say the battery is weak from teh start. I heard a BMW R1200 Start the other day, sounded like a truck whereas mine sounds like it is struggling since day 1
