I'd love to give it a go but it's supposed to be an expensive hobby. Very cool pics. Any of them you?

Mike may well be right, Steve.

That is the obscenely over muscled Metro 6R4. One of the last of the Group B rally monsters. 400 bhp, four wheel drive, mid engined V6 widow maker.

I drove the so called 'clubman' version once. A mere 210 bhp. We had to wear full headphones and mikes to talk between the seats and I could see sparks come off the wheels in the door mirrors when I pulled away.

Quattro, 6R4, RS200 and Delta Integrale were proper rally cars that over the mantle from Minis and Escort/Cortina Mexicos.

See Steve. Rallying was different in my day. Mad, uncompromising an, in the end, uncontrollable. They had to ban them. Too many drivers, too many spectators died because when they went out of control, they couldn't stop.

Even today, people lower their voices when they say 'group B'. I think they're afraid they might come back.

I had an ex works Quattro for a day once, and the thing tried to kill me almost every bend. It had to be thrown sideways to keep on top of the turbo lag, which meant you needed to drift it all the time to go quick or all the boost would come in at the apexes, 400 bhp of it...
