He won but then got a sad-on when he was told by the TT radio guy that Bruce took the lap record off him and the 132mph lap. I think he was planning on saving that for the seniors race HaHa!.
it was kind of pathetic the way he reacted to being told that bruce rode over 132, "laptimes will get beaten, but I will always be the winner", the tosser, but brucey will always go in the books as the first one over 132..
Mickey D will be in the books as having won more Tt's. Wonder if Bruce would swap that come the end of his career ? Don't take that as criticism of BA as I think he is ace. MD has likely been asked a thousand times since he got off that bike today about lap records. Maybe he just wanted to focus on himself and what he himself achieved today rather than someone else. He did win the race by destroying everyone else, Bruce included.
MD walked it, he has earned the right to be arrogant IMO. The guy has talent, I don't mind people being arrogant if they actually have something tangible to be arrogant about. What I can't stand is jumped up pric*s who think they are 'special' but are all talk no walk. The BMW is a great bike, but not everyone can ride a bike like MD does, he has so much determination (and skill) his desire to win is paramount and I think that is the right attitude. Personally think lap records on a road race are not that important, one lap wonders are one thing, but to be the fastest over the whole race is what it is really about. Pretty sure he will probaly break it though, just because he can.
We'll put ex fire, as for skippy79 calling him a twat, really have a look in the mirror, no need to slate someone who is a winner and talent maybe say it to his face they are great at fist fighting in Ireland not so sure in Belgium
he might be a 8 time winner, but he doesn't need to be an arrogant twat, plenty of others that have won a lot more than him and are a lot less arrogant.... I'm not saying he doesn't deserve the win, or doesn't have any talent, because boy can the lad ride a bike and he wiped the floor with everyone during the superbike race, and I'm sure this won't be his only win this year, but the things that come out of his mouth sometimes is just a right shame. fist fighting & MD, don't make me laugh, he might sit on me though
Hi Skippy fair point and I agree you would not want him to sit on you or indeed take our bikes for a spin
Think he's got a point tbh.... I'd rather have the trophy on mantle piece than a lap time in the record books.... Didn't see the interview but if I'd just won on a bike for the first time in 75 years and everyone had previously written me off, and all the interviewer asks is what about someone else's lap? I'd just walk off.... Think they should give him more credit for what he's just acheived.... Guy rode his balls off for 6 laps and came over first. End of. Although - 225b bhp! Bloody hell....
There in no doubting MD's talent and hunger, shame as a bloke he is not more like his uncle Am sure he will win loads more? Nice to see the first 132mph lap record going to a blade though
He does look a bit more tidier than Joey did though, I always thought Joey looked a bit untidy Joking aside, I respect racers and in general sports stars for their talent rather than personality. I tend to like controversial people more than the average Joe, I find them more interesting. They either seem a bit bland eg Stoner, Gary Lineker, or a bit aggressive/controversial , like Mike Tyson and perhaps MD. I don't think some people would be as good as they are without those not so pleasant traits. Of course many people manage to be very good and nice. Great racing though and that is the bit I love. The BMW is gonna take some beating and having MD on it as well is going to be a hard double act to beat and personally, I can't see it happening. The BMW has masses of power and MD's aggressive riding style is suiting it, seems to be a beast that needs a master when it's pushing hard and probably a hell of a lot of guts to keep it pinned, they seem a match made in heaven.
Saw it a while ago Barney, and tbh I'm pretty cool with it. So Won't be removed by myself, sure it's probably not as PC in this day and age but it is from what i see a genuine photograph, & knowing Icarus ill be positive it wasn't intended to provoke & was posted in good faith adding to a part of the TT history in 1939 that many of us never realised happened. This was the same year and many previous that my granddads friend raced in the TT and probably against this very chap? "Austin Monks from Leverton Lincolnshire if anyone fancies a google?" Would seem ironic only a year later after this picture was taken he joined up to the armed forces and was probably shooting at him.
