My R6 race engine has seen (and sounded) better days. I'm contemplating 2 things after the final round at Donny next month:

    1) Buy a newer low milage engine (the newer ones put out 5-10 bhp more but still fit) and fit it with race cams (when I get them off Tyke)

    2) Have my engine refreshed with the race cams put in and the head port & flowed.

Has anyone had a refresh done?
    Where was it done (recommended)?
    Approx cost?

I don't want to drift too far away from stock as I race endurance and reliability is important.

Nope, it's a standard engine at the moment.

It has full race exhaust, K&N air filter, Power Comander amongst loads of other mods but just not the engine.

So its a standard engine and not a race engine;)

I know I'm on a zx10 (standard engine) but I've been quoted £1500, thats engine out and then the full monty. Like you I'm not to keen on having to much done as i too am more interested in longevity...

It definitely needs a refresh/new engine for 2016.

I was overtaking a fair few down the back 'straight' at Anglesey on Saturday but i think that was just growing a pair and carrying loads of speed into and through the right hander onto it. (maybe Arthur's up for it)

Carry out a compression test on each of the cylinders and check that against service manual specs to see if engine wear is an issue.

Compression testers can be had really cheap.

    Good luck.
