[pointless rant mode on] Around this time every year I get the same thought, "Next year, I am riding every day, every chance I get." This is the time of year here in New York when the good riding weather is done and the crap weather is settling in. Riding days become fewer and further between as I inevitably come to the same conclusion: I need to move back to Florida where you can ride every day all year with little to no discomfort. When I lived in Florida, I didn't even own a car. Just bikes. It was glorious. [pointless rant mode off]

Any room for me in Florida? :D

Really regret not making more if this summer. Didn't bother me till the end of October when I realised any comfortable riding weather was done with only 1k miles added to the clocks. 2017 I was up and out for 7am some days doing 200+ miles whilst the roads were quiet.

We in UK understand completely. Nice sunny day in West Midlands today, but only 1 degree outside. I still went out for a while, but the caveat is that if we don't feel comfortable we cannot enjoy the ride as much. And with morning frosts, there's always the likelihood of a damp patch around the next corner, which of course would prompt a 'damp patch' of another description!:)

Also early morning cavorters please remember black ice or even white ice!

There was a leaky hydrant in the road near me (for months it's been seeping water across the road) and yesterday the road was frozen over so much that the Police sat in their car blocking most of the junction until Thames Water came and sorted it.
Just the sort of gotcha that can ruin your day (not to mention your bike)

I'm getting my trunks out ready!! ;)

This year has been ok in terms of the summer we've had and chances to get out on the bike. However I too look back and think I didn't get out enough and I didn't do the track days I intended.....only one :(

    Next year.....must try harder!!! :)

I am making a better effort of getting out on mine next year. They are made for riding and just being stuck in a garage is not actually good for them. Spygoat are you in NYC or elsewhere in New York State? I haven’t been to NYC yet. I had my entry, flights and accommodation all sorted for the NYC Marathon in 2007 but had to withdraw with an overuse injury in my leg, gutted. Looking forward to going in a couple of years though for the Wife’s 40th.

I'm on Long Island, in Suffolk County. Just about 30 miles east of NYC proper. NYC is a great place to visit and I'd recommend everyone go at least once. I try to get out to the city a few times a year. Absolute hell on bikes though.

Completely feel your pain. I'm in the West Midlands and we usually get a raw deal. East midlands tends to have better weather. I too have promised to ride everyday next year as soon as we get through the winter. #wannacry

Having spent over 35 years riding 5 to 6 days a week commuting into London and only missing the odd snow and icy day, the last 3 years working local and becoming a sissy bitch and jumping in the car at the first sign of increased Cumulus clouds over Newfoundland and a slightly perky jetstream, I actually feel quite liberated and I actually enjoy riding again.

The only thing that kept me going all those years through darkest winter, was the thought of sharing a train carriage with obnoxious, germ laden, over stressed barstewards on Southeastern trains I guess.
