So after the kind offer from MrB of checking VIN numbers for recalls i spotted the dB reading for the blade with a standard exhaust and it said it was 99dB at 6k.

This got me thinking what is the legal dB limit to pass a M.O.T and what sort of readings do aftetmarket cans make with or without baffles

I think my standard RRW can says 80dB on it. There isn,t a legal limit, if a copper thinks it ,s noisy, he will give you a ticket to go to a bike shop and if they think it s noisy, you will get done. I doubt a standard can will be anywhere near 99 dB.

Exactly, it's at the discretion of the MOT tester. They must judge their decision upon a standard bike with standard exhaust and judge how much louder the aftermarket exhaust is and if they feel it's an issue. So, always try and make your MOT man your best friend.

Well after taking the baffle out of my akro I found the noise just a tad too much.Don,t get me wrong it sounds bloody awesome but after a while it was getting to me and probably half the neighbourhood.I put it back in and it sounds much better. The only downside is people cannot hear me coming so I put my high beam on instead.

It has 99dB stamped on the same plate the VIN number is on. why would it be there if isnt the correct reading. ?

Just seems daft there is no set limit. what if your M.O.T tester is hard of hearing ? Would they pass a full akra race system

My RR5 with yoshi GPForce end can with no baffles only measured 97db at cadwell so i think its doughtfull that a standard zorst will read 99db unless its a big thumping single cylinder or a vig V-Twin.

I agree that 99dB does seem rather high and thats why i was confused. i pressume all blades will have a dB reading stamped on the frame same as mine

True . My 600 passed with a Two Brothers slip on with no baffle and at the same time the tester passed my dads BMW with a decat Remus system . With the BMW he asked if it used to have a cat and we said yes and he replied with " ok, no probs " lol
