This is only my first year in racing but out of the clubs I am a member of, Wirral 100 seems to be pretty good really. Over a day you would get your timed practice of 6 laps, then two 8 lap races and if you enter one of the open categories, you get a third 8 lapper. Entry fees are pretty reasonable and work out at about £110ish per day for your main class and then an open. The other club that is proper value for money is the Tonfanau circuit : index It is properly good fun and from Anglesey it is about a 1 1/2 hour drive, so it is not bad time wise for you from Holyhead. With these guys you pay £85 and get 9 practice laps and three 10 lap races. It is a proper club circuit based on an old army camp. very short circuit racing with a lap taking only 45 seconds or so, but my God do you get some close and frantic racing. One of my favourite circuits and a bit like the Irish roads really. Huge fun and definitely worth a go.
I think that a lot of people think that racing is expensive and that is what puts them off. All 4 clubs I am a member of charge pretty much the same per day, with the exception of Tonfanau who are cheap as chips. I reckon I can do a full weekend of racing on £400 per weekend and that includes entries, tyres (scrubs), fuel, food, garage hire. It is just the crashing which causes pisses on the chips.
So basically all the races at circuits i dont know (all of them but cadwell and oulton) im gonna be starting at the back of the grid lol
You don't know until you turn up there YT. Even if you do start at the back of the grid, it doesn't matter. At the beginning of this year I was exactly the same and didn't want to be at the back of the grid, but as the year went on I realised that it really doesn't matter. Enjoyment is what it is all about. There isn't a career balancing on results or anything like that. Even if you are at the back of the grid (which I very much doubt you will be), you are still out there racing and living the dream.
Got it in one! I have had some epic battles from the rear of the grid. To me, it is just as much of a battle as it is right at the front of the pack. Don't get me wrong, I would love to be up in the top of the pile, but I realise that I am not that quick. Plus the nearer the front you come, the more you have to spend. It is a mix of talent and money at the front for sure.
