Went out for a ride today for about two hours stopped for a break turned the engine and ignition of took my helmet of and just happened to pull the front brake there was aloud high pitched noise coming from the front of the bike near the radiator witch got me a bit worried every time I pulled the brake I'd get this noise and its fairly loud rode for another ten minutes stopped same noise brakes work OK although a bit spongy its abs anybody else noticed this with there abs bike for all I know it might have always done it just never noticed it before
Nope zero problem matey according to Mr Honda Now back in the real world we all know different ........you have joined the pissed off ABS owners club I am afraid.
The front modulator is what's giving you the high pitch noise from behind the radiator, there was an issue with the abs ecu causing the abs systems to cut in and drain power when carrying out low speed manuveours with ign off and pulling a brake lever. They altered this fault with an abs ecu upgrade which was fitted to late model 11 and 12+ blade models. Honda didn't think this issue warranted a recall tho so they only swapped out the ecu for new version on a bike that was brought into honda complaining of flat battery issues.........even then it was kept on the QT as far as publicity was concerned and the usual honda BS of there has never been any 600 or 1000rr c-abs issues or problems fixed by Honda! Used to get this myself, but have changed the ABS ECU to a 2012 one and been fine since. IIRC (could be wrong) if this happens the ABS light will not switch on next time you start up, so you will not know if the start up diagnostics have completed or not ie whether the ABS is active or not
The draining battery issue is activated when you manoeuvre the bike backwards and forwards and moving the bars, as in when you are parking in a gap etc. Once the ignition is off the ABS ECU and the modulators etc stay active and the battery is flat within 15 minutes. The only fix is either to park it, turn off the ignition and then back on again and off again, you can hear when the electronics are still active when the ignition is off, or get the ABS ECU changed for the 12+ version, if you have a full dealer service history throw a tantrum and Honda normally replace under good will, if not they are over 1K new, so just keeping turning the thing on and off when you hear the electrics still running. The noise is from the front mod, I could get my old 10 plate to that with the lever right back to the bar and a huge amount of squelching noise, and yes mine suffered from total front brake failure many times, not suggesting yours will, but that was my history. Search this site and the web, a number of owners videoed this and posted it up.
YorkshireGooner sells the ABS ECU units for around 30 squids, just check the serial number to ensure its a 2012+. Not sure about the 2014+ABS ecu units being compatible you would need someone in the know to confirm. Its a doddle to fit, rear cowl off and fit!
