last night I attended the Wirral 100 race club's annual dinner dance and awards presentation evening. It was a fantastic evening, really well attended and lots of familiar faces from the past year's racing. Every year they have a guest speaker and the speaker last night was Christian Iddon. He is probably better known for his super moto days, but over the last two years he has been in British supersport and last year he was in the World Supersport series, riding for MV. For 2014 he is heading to WSB and the Alstare Bimota team. All I can say is what a decent and down to earth guy. He had time for everybody and was amongst the first on the dance floor and probably the last to leave it too. I had a great chat with him, told him all about my first year in racing and was really encouraged by his words of advice. All in all a top guy, really genuine and a pleasure to have met him.
It's nice to meet famous people with their feet planted firmly on the ground than some twat who thinks he's above everyone else
He always came across like that on tv, as if he didnt believe that he was good enough to be racing with the boys at the front
I have met Carl Fogarty on several occasions as he has a boat and holiday home on Anglesey and has come into work to buy spares. He is a total opposite to Mr Iddon. I know he must get fed up with people talking to him and bothering him etc., but surely you expect it and it is part of the territory, but he is just such a grumpy, miserable guy. I couldn't see him doing what Christian Iddon did on Saturday night and spend most of the evening on the dance floor mixing with total strangers and really having a proper laugh. I sent him an email yesterday to thank him for turning up and within 10 minutes I had a reply saying how much he enjoyed the evening and that I had to keep him posted on my progress this season. What a star and a genuinely decent guy.
