Those old VFRs really are a bargain Nigel. I picked that one up for £1250, it needed a bit of a refresh and a good bit of elbow grease and its come up like a new penny. It owes me about £1900 now and it will be worth that forever more, its money in the bank as the saying goes. They're typical 90s Honda, they just keep going and going. You really want the 98 or 99 model as they don't have a catalytic converter and they still have gear driven cams and no VTEC. Mines a 98. :D.

In February I'll take it off the road and I'm going to refresh the suspension and check the valve clearances.

there's a circlip that holds the plastic connector on to the body of the master cylinder that the hose is attached to.

It's unlikely to fall out though.

Ah, poor @TheMickster has just pulled his bike apart to prove @CharlieR85 wrong!

Gains kudos from me though. One must go to great lengths to be right all the time! ;)

Sorry Mick, I thought you meant the clip that holds the hose to the union not the union to the master cylinder. Well corrected.

What a shame. Someone will get an amazing bargain. Take my advice.....don't look at the used section of the dealers website.

Ha! I did, immediately after reading your post. It's not up yet.

I don't know why - they don't have to do one bit of detailing! :)

I have been told not to get a winter hack as it would just join my cbr under the dehumidified duvet and multiple covers :(

    Yep, that's my fear!

So I look for a bike that is cheap and high mileage, but then won't buy it cos it's crap.

I have a bid on the VFR in post #43, but from my contact with the owner, I suspect he'll pull the listing if the price doesn't get to £1500.

I also won't go out if it it not above 15c no salt on the roads, etc so it limits my riding time, I would like to buy a bike to do some off road in winter but this would also probably fail to comply with my riding protocol:(

What's your budget on the VFR Nigel? I'll keep an eye out. The one you have posted I don't really like the look of. The advert seems badly written and I wonder what kind of state the bike was in originally if he's had to buy multiple breakers to keep the "good" bike in good condition.

There's a good looking blue one at Sheldon Motorcycles not far from you, unfortunately they're looking for top dollar.

The best thing about the bike for me is the Honda identity plate on the frame tells me I'm one number away from owning an RC45 (my VFR model number is RC46) :D

The wife's car was advertised by a polish chap (did not know at the time), 2k miles but not a good advert seemed to cheap, and not good on the phone., But when we went to see the car great bloke and great car, bought it, wife over the moon:)

    Bloody hell, @CharlieR85 . Seems as if you've been highly influenced by @Lozzy 's 'Grammar and Dating' post. ( https://www.1000rr.co.uk/threads/to-all-the-girls-i’ve-loved-before.37279/page-72#post-511525 )

I'm in the pauper budget for this. I couldn't justify going over 1200. Sure, that limits the field, but one day I will be lucky and snaffle a good bargain like our friend @gary1966 seems to have perfected. On advice, I'm seeking 1998 - 1999.
