Super Cub cleans after every ride with a Muck-off chain cleaner but he does not use any cleaner but a oil with PTFE sprayed on using the Muck Off cleaner, sort of washing with oil it keeps the chain totaly clean, just wipe of any excess before you ride. Takes only 30 seconds.
Ohhh - interesting technique - maybe you can get Super Cub to peel the stickers off your swing arm too...!!
I dont touch the chain, wouldnt have the first idea, someone else always offers anyway. I rode my bike a couple of years back, and it felt really unstable, got to a bike meet and a mate pointed out my tyre pressures needed doing, Think I had about 20 on the front tyre! I hadnt checked in 18 months of owning the bike. (i now check them yearly) Sadly it's just laziness, I could work it out, I dont look after my work car either, had it from brand new since july, its not been washed yet
I clean My chain after every other ride or so depending how wet it got! Or how long? I like to keep it fairly dry so I picked up a mini spray can just in case a weekend turns into a week away
Mine gets a treat every other ride with ceramic chain lube then a good clean every month with paraffin
I do the same as Barmby, every 150 to 200 miles with MucOff PTFE dry lube. I wash it every month with paraffin and brake cleaner. My chain has done 25,000 miles and never needs adjusting!!! I check my tyres before every ride. Just press em in the middle to see if I have a slow puncture. Mel, you really should check yours more often. A mate didn't, got to the first corner from his place and ended up on the wrong side of the road!!!
PAraffin and tooth brush. I have the fancy chain thing posted in this thread but find the only way to clean it well is by taking your time. Also rate Wurth very highly
I check the chain every ride or weekly. But that also included 1 check in 1800 miles in 6 days. Still in top condition
Some years back a BSB team lost 9 bhp after a race somehow they managed to get the OK from the ACU to test a hich tec chain oiler during a race as a one off. Results showed they had lost just 3 bhp clear evidence that a well maintained and lubed chain pays dividends. Lube mine once a month mileage down by 75% bloody recession and age . lol
