in the eyes of the professional world of superbikes, their riders seem to be young and short lived older riders seem to drop out and move on just as they come into their own being 46 yrs myself, i connect with the TT, NorthWest 200 and the seasoned riders who kick ass like 41yr mcguiness and 49yr mcwilliams. but lets not stop there, in the unassuming local neighbourhood there are even older riders than this, who are doing it on their superbikes today - this post is for them one fellow comes to mind, bernie lives in my area and at 72 years young, rides every weekend on his repsol CBR1000RR and still has motion in his lotion and fuel in his tank as he rides with the local superbike youngsters he is totally inspiring and i know he's not the only one around who do you know of in your area thats seasoned and still getting it on with their superbike today ?
At the age of 85, Ted Fenwick would far rather slip on his leathers than his slippers. The grandfather of three from York has been racing motorbikes for six decades and is a four-time winner at the Isle of Man's Pre TT Classic races, most recently in 2011, aged 83.
There is an old boy about 70 plus who hangs around Glasson dock and he rides a blade and not forgetting our very own El .Nicko who doesn't mind a decent shift on a Sports bike .
It's the reason I finally got round to getting a blade at 44, was meeting a bloke in his 60's coming back from Misano on the hull ferry riding a spotless rr7, just thought if he could still manage the bending I had no excuse. Couple of years previously I met a 73 year old on a 1098 on the boat who'd bought it because his wife had arthritis and couldn't go on the back of the bike anymore so he'd sold the z1000 !
