insurance policy general do's and don't's

    Thought it may be useful to put together a list on general points to watch out for regading insuring your bike.

    These are ususally difficult to spot in the little prints and can catch you out.

    Let me throw my hat in the ring with these:
    • when using price comparison web sites, the info you enter does not always fully or correctly transfer to the insurer. So the details of the final cover on the isurer's website
    • Check if the steering lock has to be on whenever the bike is parked
    • Garage clause, this can be "at all times in the vicinity of the registered address" or during certain hours
    • Costs of mid term chages you make to the policy including cancellation
    Hopefully there will be some additions from other member for the benefit of all:)

    - Third party bike use not covered.
    - If bike is stolen from drive then it is not covered.

    Loan bike only 125cc and for very limited time.

    What is considered to be a cost/ no cost modification under policy premium.

    • loan car/ bike generally only available if you use their approved repairer
    • Non OEM or used parts may be used for repairs

    If the crash is non fault, you can get the other side to pay for a loan car or bike regardless of what your policy states

    It is only in own fault crashes that it would be an issue
