Ive noticed a knock noise if i roll the bike backwards with the front brake on enough to give resistance, then release the brake. I instantly get a knock/tap but its hard to determine where it comes from.

    Anyone had anything similar?

My guess is there is movement in the brake pads in the brembo m4's. All mounting bolts are torqued up and nothing is noticeably loose.

    Cheers.

Are your steering head bearings okay?

Good point! What the recommended way of testing them?

Is it tested as part of the MOT as it went through one recently.

They are but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have a problem after and sometimes the bike isn’t checked properly

Hold the front brake on and gently, try and rock the bike back and forward just a little, separately try and lift up the bars and try and feel for movement around the headset. If the bearings are really worn it would clunk as the yolk moves up and down because the bearings have worn out.

Sometimes, just a quarter turn on the head stem bearing locknuts will solve the problem.
