    Hi all,

forgive me, I am not what you call technically minded. But after washing my bike, apart from the chain is there any where else I need to lube and what with, ie WD40 etc?

I say this as my gears are slipping on the foot lever, it just seems very sticky and sometimes have a problem knocking it into gear. Just wondered what may be causing it to stick but then perhaps I need to lube the lever?

    Thanks,
    J

If you are having problems selecting gear, I would doubt it was to do with your washing regime. Your gear lever would have to be in a poor state for it to be a lubrication cause, it could be worn or poorly adjusted, perhaps another more mechanically minded member is close to have a look at it. If you ask someone will cast an eye I'm sure.
As far as WD40 is concerned its great for many things but it's not a long term lubricant.
    Good Luck,
    Mike.

WD is petroleum based so should not be used on chains as it'll wash out the good stuff. ACF50 I use for cycle parts, chain wax or lube for the chain, Mr sheen to clean bodywork and wd40 to wipe over dirty wheels

Mr Sheen? New one on me, do you use it as a polish?

It's what many dealers use to get their bikes all shiny for their showrooms

......and only about a quid a tin, it also doesn't leave a white residue around badges etc. like waxes do.

WD40 is very good though for lifting chain lube etc from wheels,

WD40 is fine for cleaning chains ... Just don't spray it directly on to the chain.

I get 30k out of chains using WD40 to clean the external dirt and lube with Motul C4 race lube :)

I use paraffin to properly clean a dirty chain once in a while and a WD40 soaked rag to keep the outside links clean on a more regular basis.
