.... has just passed, he doesnt want to blow loads of money on his first bike (saving for a house also) so he is looking at stretching over the 3k mark at best, but want something fairly up to date. I've suggested the cbr600rr as its a great bike and i think the underseat exhaust keeps it looking modern compared to the same age r6 and gsxr..

i've never bought a bike of ebay, but this looks very clean etc and for the money seems fantastic, what do you guys think?

The F might be a bit less strident for someone just off his 'L's mate.

The thinking mans bike! Good call ken (also suggested it) but he is a mid twenties, Italian style conscious idiot... Got to be the rr if cbr.

He might need to stretch his budget.

As for eBay, anyone had good or bad experiences buying bikes off it??

Daytona 650. More torque, bigger than other sports 600, cheaper to insure than the Kwack, Honda Yamaha etc, handles like glue.

I did 10k mies in 2.5 years and very reliable. Don't go for the 600 as stators can be iffy. Easy to ride, and a great road bike. A latest 2005 will cost 3k with low miles and a minter.

bikes seem to be cheaper on autotrader than ebay jimbo, i started back on bikes after about 15 years off with a 05 gixer 600 he should be fine on any supersports bike, the kawi"s are generally a bit cheaper should get an 06 for that money.

I reckon a 600 would be best and the 600RR the best of the bunch for build & reliability....but a supersport bike might not be the best intro to learning some road craft.

If he doesn't want to spank a load of money (insurance will easily be 600 fully comp), maybe an SV650? If he's style concious and of the Italian persuasion, a 620/750/800 Monster would probably suit him down to the ground. Get 12 months riding under his belt, then trade up to a sportsbike.

That's my sensible advice (but I'd still go out & buy either a CBR600RR or a Triumph Daytona 675)

    Cheers guys

@Si nice one, hadn't thought of these, he loves the 675 but too dear, and the 650 was an awesome road bile and would suit his learning status

@dave, cheers pal... I've sent him the link for both, think he will like them.

@v he won't have a sv, not sporty enough, as for naked, I'll have a look, could be an option. But he is like the rest of us - not so sensible!

He went out and bought White alpinestar boots before passing his test ffs...

To be honest, there are so many good and decent dealers spread around that I can't see the need to go eBay or auto trader at this level. He's new to the scene, he's got Jimbo to point him in the right direction (shudder). A bit of guidance from a reputable dealer to start an ongoing dialogue for the future and a face to return to if and when he needs further help. There's plenty of bikes out there without traipsing all over the country. Especially without a tame Arthur in his pocket.

The bike that I initially bought before I actually passed was a 954 blade, that was five years ago (resonably late to holding a road licence) My mate talked me out of it and into getting the 600rr, luckily the dealer was cool with me changing my mind as he had one in stock that I liked.

I loved that 600, was an awesome bike. As for wheather he should or shouldn't go for it or something a little more sedate, I'm hardly best placed to comment!!!

Ha! I think the 954 may have been more sedate than the 600, Dave. Mine's a big pussycat.

Mind you, my cat's a psychotic serial killer...
