So this evening on my way home from work, I had my very first *moment*
Coming off of a roundabout at a decent ish lean angle and speed, opened the throttle a bit too soon and felt the back end slide
Luckily, that’s all that happened and I live to tell the tale.
Based on not much experience, I think I can put it down to being too eager on the throttle, and a brand new rear tyre not being scrubbed in fully. Anyone have any thoughts on anything else it could be? Or is this normal?

Road surface, diesel, petrol, could be a number of things. Blades are usually fairly smooth in their delivery and the average road temps aren't too bad at the moment.

Take the adrenaline hit and put it down as an experience. ;)

Yeah perhaps. It wasn’t so much an instant thing, it didn’t go as soon as I opened, I was progressively opening more at quite a lean. Possibly a combination then if what you’ve said.
I won’t lie, it was exciting! I’ll chalk it up to learning.

A bit of advanced riding that, spinning the rear up to tip the bike in, all the pros do it. ;)

One of my favourites is seeing the MotoGP guys sliding the rear end through the corner. But the way the Moto2 guys enter a corner nearly sideways, that’s something else!

What was your position in the road? Lots of gravel and garbage on some roundabouts.

I’d say middle of the right hand lane coming off the roundabout. I’ve done the exact same thing hundreds of times on my old 600rr, but of course this has A LOT more oomph, so that could be a contributing factor.

Main thing is mate you kept it upright and didnt come off, just remember to pay particular attention road surfaces, roundabouts can be a dumping ground for diesel and gravel etc, maybe a slight too much wrist action may have contributed to the event.

Yeah, that particular corner is quite polished, rather than nice grippy tarmac, so that probably didn’t help either.

You mustn’t have cut the throttle at that point because if you did you’d more than likely have had a high side!

No I don’t think I did, it was only a minuscule little slide, just enough for me to know, but I didn’t shut the throttle off.

Reading the headline ‘My first moment’ encouraged me into the thread, thinking it was gonna be sex and debauchery only to find out we’ve had a little wiggle on the rear and even kept the throttle pinned.............oh well back to the red wine and sweet chilli crisps
