2nd time out on the blade first use with quickshifter and 1/4 turn QAT All was going well throughout the day and still learning to ride on slicks and getting used to raceshift Last session of the day,we were held up in pit lane for 6/7 mins while a crash was cleared up I'd like to think it was a cold tyre that did the damage but i think I just turned off for a second As i come into the knickerbrook chicane- i see my mate run on,i remember looking for him coming out of knickerbrook as i turned into clay hill then next thing i'm on my ar5e ! anyway.. heres the Video Not a lot of damage at first inspection, ideally i'd like a new fairing but funds are tight and it'll have to be repaired so anyone in the Manchester area any good at fibreglass i'd be willing to get the hobnobs and latte machine on the go !
That sucks mate Maybe a warmer tire might have held that but you never with those types of crashes... At least your not hurt and she is good to ride for another day
Main thing is no broken bones And I suppose at least it didn't happen at the beginning of the day so you kinda got your money's worth
Am ok-sore shoulder (better now) and a bit of heat transfer burn Leathers stood up well (inside arm panel needs repair) and gloves were really good I can recommend the knox biomech gloves-they have a hardened plastic bit on the base of the palm this stops the leather 'gripping' the tarmac and you just slide-minimises hand/wrist/arm injuries I dont think i will use slicks again,i checked afterwards and they were from 2008 as well :-( Least i have a nice project for winter now !
Looks like the front let go. Cold slicks on a cold track; you might as well be using wooden hoops. I think road tyres (good ones) work best at this time of year; slicks generally have quite a narrow temp range where they work. Been there a few times mate; glad your not hurt as its easy to snap a collar bone in fall like that.
I had a big moment coming out of that same corner in September when I got on the power and ended up coming out sidewards, the bloke behind me later on traced me down in the pits to say 'it looked awesome', I needed a change of underpants. This was at the 'Bennett's Ultimate Track day' and when having a group interview session with Cal Crutchlow and James Toseland later on that day they both said it's really greasy from the knickerbrook chicane up until the final right hander before you head left up the hill to the start finish straight, most likely because of all the trees. You'll probably find that the accident was a combination of old tyres that weren't up to full heat due to being stood around and the fact that that is a sloppy area. Glad your not too banged up.
Glad you are ok!! Looks to me like you were adding lean angle and adding throttle at the same time, which you maybe could have gotten away with with warmer tyres...
Shit mate, at least your ok. Always got to wonder how good an old tyre is, especially of you don't know how it's been stored.
