Fitted the PCV + O2 eliminator to the fireblade last night to see if it would improve the fueling on the bike. My main complaints were a jerky throttle when coming on-off the throttle through traffic when commuting... very difficult to hold a constant throttle in 2nd gear at low rpms (filtering, etc) that made the bike 'kangaroo' which I found it really annoying after my R1 was ultra smooth at all rpms. Fitting the PCV + O2 eliminator has made a big difference on what is basically a stock bike. It's not 100% but is now able to hold constant throttle without stumbling at low rpms... the initial stumble when roll on-off throttle is still there but is managable.... it's either due to the injection system or possibly that the gearing is simply too long for 2nd gear at circa 25mph... so I reckon 44T rear sprocket should help. I just don't want to affect the fuel economy as it is superb on the commute Thoughts?
What exhaust are you running OCD? I know through reading some of the posts on here that this is a common occurence with the slightly older bikes and that post 2012 things improved markedly, though I've noticed a similar (albeit very minor) effect on my bike (RR-D) between 2-3k rpm since fitting my new exhaust. Idle's absolutely fine and smooth though. Have you changed any of the PCV settings already? Though I can't help in this respect, I'll watch this thread with interest...
Standard exhaust. I have already mapped the PCV with the correct map from FW Developments. The bike has always been rock solid on idle and is smooth as you like when on open throttle... but rolling on-off at very low speed, low rpms the bike becomes very snatchy... typically under 3000rpm... say rolling along in 2nd gear between 20-30mph... Whilst I appreciate this is not what these bikes are designed for my older R1 managed it fine... as did the one before that ... as has every other bike I've had... it seems to be this Euro 3 compliance that manufacturers are struggling to meet and therefore is affecting the fueling just off idle and when going from open-close-open throttle ... combined with long gearing it requires too much effort to keep the bike running smooth at lower speeds. It doesn't help that you are pretty much using only 2% of the throttle to maintain constant speed at lower revs with little movement required both ways for example when filtering hence the jerking... So to sort ... the PCV + O2 eliminator, +2 on rear sprocket and custom map should result in a silky smooth throttle at any revs. Watch this space
Considered +2 on the rear for the extra poke, might do this next time as just changed the chain and Sprox but would you need a longer chain or would the OEM length be ok?
Which map... the one I'm using? PM me your email address and will send it over. I also have BlackDevil's custom map... (it's his PCV I bought) ... if anyone needs it.
Will find out ... the chain on my bike only done 2k miles so will just throw the rear sprocket on ...
Slight off-topic thread hijack I realise, but the Power Commanders... will the maps that you are referring to for your bikes above differ from those required for mine, given that (looking here: Honda CBR 1000 RR Fireblade Power Commanders | PC3 | PC5) there are different versions of the PCV depending on the year of bike? And if so, are the later model maps harder to come by, or are these all readily available? Finally... (sorry), do you need a PC to be able to interface with/set up the Power Commanders, or can you use a Mac too? Sorry for the noob questions...!
Mac is not supported on the PCs unfortunately. There are 2 PCV available for the +08, one for 08-11 and 08+ obviously you want the latter.
