Anybody buy the latest PB magazine?

They have bought an RR8 for four grand with forty two thousand miles on it. The plan is to make it faster than current crop of litre bikes.

Seems an interesting project, one that I'll be reading

Yes and I'm going to be following it closely. I was so close to putting a deposit down on the 2017 blade, but not so sure now so I'll see what they do and maybe do some mods on my 2014 blade instead

Is there a budget or any limitations they are working to?

    Yep, and me... :)

Mines now 25,000 mile old ... so I'm interested to see what they find.

It's pretty simple to do! Lose weight from the bike, add a quickshifter, tune engine!

Dumping the standard end can drops the bike weight between 3-5kg, rear pegs another 1kg, tail tidy is another kilo lost, the list goes on

Every kilo lost is supposed to be equal to another bhp! So lose enough weight and make sure the bike is dyno'd and you're halfway there

Part of the reason why I haven't traded up to a latter model

I'm 17 stone, so weight saving isn't my main goal.
The way I looked at it is like this. My blade cost 7k and it already had a can on it, I've invested in a good quality rearshock and a set of forks and Is in the process of having an ECU reflash Dyno remap. So in total I'll probably spend £1500 + a few other bolt on bits over the winter.
Now I really did like the new Blade as well as the Gsxr 1000 but in my opinion they are not worth an extra 5 to 7k especially as you'll want to buy and exhaust etc.
I couldn't ride a new bike any quicker than an old bike, I'll look into changing in a couple of years.

Interesting about the standard exhaust. I realise my bike sounds different and changes mood when it gets above 4k revs, but did not realise that changing the standard exhaust would potentially even this out.

Interesting article on Page 110 comparing said Fireblade to the new R1

Also cracking calendar pictures - particularly the 1299 Superleggera on the front cover, and the new Fireblade SP !

    New PB is out.

Part 2 of the Blade build. They have stripped the bike right down to the bones. Engine out for some tasteful mods too.

    This project is getting good.

PB is out today which means Part 4 of Project Blade.

Some interesting reading, a stock bike producing 169BHP on the dyno. It was originally producing 159BHP when it was first bought.

Doesn't surprise me ... I dyno'd mine at 20k miles ... 169.7bhp on the dyno... with PCV5 and exhaust it did another 3bhp at peak. (although massive increase in midrange)

I'll never forget Clive Padgett had just built John McG Superstock blade, done everything. and it made xxx bhp (cant remember now)

They put my 50k bike onto dyno, (which they had considered a bit of a shed in its cloned china fairings etc.) had nothing but an end can and K&N and it made more than John's bike - so just shows miles can help an engine bed in.

    New PB mag out today.

It pits the old RR8 against the new Blade, S1000RR, R1 and GSXR-R around Donnington.

Its fair to say the RR8 pisses all over the lot of them :)
