That means nothing to me Ken, I have been doing mine through Microsoft word lol. I could be responsible for the poor quality you have metioned
No mate. It's the size that the image needs to be in order to post on the site. It's about the pixel count. To get them onto the site most of the information is thrown away and there aren't so many pixels left. When you zoom into the image, even a little bit, the pixels become visible, like a roman mosaic, so when you work on them you're working on big clumps rather than fine points. When we try to draw around areas to cut out for pasting into the picture instead of a fine line you end up with a saw tooth edge. It's the same for all of us once we start re using files that have already been posted. Because of this, when somebody brings me an old print to repair, I'll scan it with more pixels than I need to print it satisfactorily. This will, hopefully, let me repair the image at a pixel level so small that the repair will be invisible at print resolution.
yeah thats the bad bit about internet images, quality lost every time. I try to recover it as much as I can everytime I add something but you can only do so much when an image is a copy of a copy of a copy ...........................
With enough pixels its surprising what you can get away with though. I once had a local archivist, real arrogant basket give me a real hard time over producing a print for the museum. It was an image of the window of a local optician, chemist and camera dealers from a 100 years ago. I had to scan a half plate glass negative, clean it, balance it and then print it a metre square. The git had me making so many test prints you could have used them as wallpaper. The print's still hung there and to my knowledge nobody's ever actually noticed the Canon 5D tucked in the corner of the bottom shelf.
I think it's great what you guys are doing, as mentioned its almost like playing spot the difference, I'm actually working on something with photos, a few snap shots (50 odd)from various ride outs folk if met along the way etc, then I was going to laminate it and hang it in the shi. Err Garage, but seriously looking at you photo shop artists I reckon I'll negotiate for me to send my pics and have it done with the witch craft you guys worship. Keep up the good work.
Gary, mate, it's well worth learning it alongside learning your camera. It goes hand in glove with the digital camera. Plus, my boss charges me out at £35.00 an hour.
I'll see how things progress Ken looking at upgrading the pc later, that said the £35 per hour seems a good price for the type of work, considering the price of monitors key boards that may meet its maker with a hammer.
