Ok so I’m very very tempted to pick up a Glenn Irwin NW200 replica helmet. It’s a shoei xspirit 3 and has the full paint job, what’s people’s opinions? Would you drop a grand on a replica lid??
It will be signed and definitely limited edition but I would buy it to wear, and might squeeze a free track day training session out of the deal too

If you like it and have tje wonga then why not.

Plenty of paint protection kits for helmets these days so you can use it without too much concern for scratching it to bits scrubbing bugs off it.

That's one heap of dosh for a helmet. I can be quite liberal with money, but I wouldn't spend a grand on a helmet. I've even shuddered at 800 for the Arai HRC helmets. Sure, it looks good, but is it really any more than a mobile billboard?

But, as tuktuk says, and as I so often do myself, in the words of Nike: 'Just Do It.'

I think if your going to use it then its worth it. A grand for something thats sat on a shelf in a protective bag and only comes out for 25 mins on a sunny day to take your bike for a service is a bit of a waste in my view. Thing is thought, you bash it and its not as easily replaced!

When i got the Arai it wasnt much of a premium over the other replica ones. Plus it gets used like any other helmet ive owned. Its sat here now looking like ive taken out a wasps nest with it.

Damn! I've got half-a-dozen bikes in protective bags that only come out for 25 mins on a sunny day.

    I guess I'm damn fortunate they're not sitting on a shelf lest I incur @tuktuk 's wrath:D:D:D

Bikes will generally have a demand though, who wants a second hand helmet and how much is someone prepared to lose by selling on a 1k helmet.

Thats why I think if you like it and buy it then make use of it. After the first few stone chips you dont feel so bad about the odd mark :D

If you like it and can afford it without credit then why not buy it?

It’s ordered! 400 deposit, 600 on collection in October! Just said fuck it, and need to slowly siphon the cash into my slush fund without the missus noticing now

Ah yes. It's a fine art, that. And she will still question your '200 pound-on-offer' helmet in October. That's probably when she hears of your sudden couple of hundred win on a lotto scratchie!!:)

Nice that, if you’re on Bookface then Rage designs do Hickmans helmets designs.

Quoted me about £500 to do my xspirit 3

Hickys lid is really smart too, to be fair 500 quid for a full paint job isn’t bad really,
