Yeah, welcome back - even though you were here before me! Don't join any of the members' runs. As you'll probably remember, not many can match the pace of HRCs.
I would be concerned too after reading about the mishaps and near misses. Remember though, only bad news hits the forums. There's probably (hopefully?) thousands that have never had a problem. I wonder if there are any stats about affected bikes? Still, I think the biggest concern might be 'wondering' if you'll ever need to emergency stop and then find your lever useless.
