Picking her up tomo but unsure on running in process as dealer says no need as long as not track riding there are done at factory but I don't want to hurt her ;) every motocross bike I've had new I've ran in over 6 hour period so not to confident I shouldn't with my blade??!!

Most manufacturers are 600 miles whilst not labouring the engine (keeping it below 6-8k) but heard earlier today that a mate was told bikes will basically be good to go and drop the first oil by 100 miles!!! I'd go old school myself!

How long do you plan on keeping it? Longer than the warrantee period? I have only had 1 new bike and I just rode it as normal once it was fully warmed up. Unless you are on deserted roads or have a serious death wish it pretty hard to nail it to the red line in all the gears everywhere you go all the time. I would say an early oil change is the best thing you can do for any engine.

When I bought a cbr600 new the book was a bit vague & ust said basically don't ride like a nob for a bit, but my mates Daytona handbook went into the usual Max revs per x hundred miles and so on, I ran it in as per usual like the Daytona.

I did what it said in the manual. A pain but manufacturers would not spend millions on working out the best way to run a bike in without know what they need to do

Yes people will say "look at BSB engines" Dyno and revved to the max in 5 miles. But they are not going to be used in the same way your own bike on the road will

best bet do as the manual suggests. With the "odd" blip just for a little added fun

I ran mine in properly and it burns virtually no oil. Lucky or coincidence?

if that was a story from james at JHS racing who service and look after my bike he's a top chap

I also ran my in as per the book and use hardly any oil. Maybe a little more on track but to be expected

Have now had my blade for two years from new. i was very careful with the running-in process - but after 1200 miles she has used 1/2 litre of oil. So not a huge amount but still, its a reasonable amount. i have since been a careful rider & no track days either. Think sometimes you can be too careful.

I too stuck to Farnham Honda's recommendations, made sure I didn't load the engine and kept the rpm's at 6k for the first 600 miles. Don't think you can go far wrong if you stick to that, it's a pain, but at least you'll always know you ran it in right.
