Wow, did I snaffle a bargain today. Just recently got back from Reading after doing a deal with an aprilia forum member. I have scored 2 X RS 50s plus a spare frame and heaps of goodies. The main bike is an 06 'Spain's No 1' Lorenzo rep, whilst 2001 'Y' reg black and red. Among the goodies, pictured, is a brand new set of fairings, sprockets and chain, braided lines, battery tender, Haynes manual and a spare swing arm and front wheel. Both bikes were abandoned projects. It appears most fixings etc are in the tubs, but I'll start tomorrow on the Spain, to get it together and then tizzy it up after fully assembling the black one. The Spain has receipts for barrel and piston replacement and not even run in yet. Price? £1,000 only!
Let's just say that if I didn't own my own home, I'd be evicted!! I've got fairings bubble wrapped under my bed; there's another set in the second bedroom which usually serves as a study; the other set waiting to go up to the loft tomorrow; and the 3 tubs of parts/paraphernalia I hope to condense into two and squeeze them into my shed. As far as the work, it has to be in my small rear yard. The bikes are covered in WD40 and plastic at the moment, but given that I'm retired I'll have ample time to devote to this project. I forgot to add to the above that I also received two paddock stands: a rear with flat pads for the swing arm, and a front 'Constands' pin under yoke type which are said to be the bees knees in USA. I guess if I purchase other pins I can use it with my other bikes. And to think I was on the verge of buying one a couple of weeks ago after seeing @Selmer50mark 's.
Yeah, well, there's no cleaning left to do on the others. I can't wait to ride a 50cc. I really don't know what I'm letting myself in for! Of course it's a case of 7,000-plus revs before anything 'happens', but I'm figuring there won't be too much happening in the speed department. But in life there is hope for everything. I might send @Lozzy a PM to see if she might be a pillion passenger to her favourite Spam Fritter cafe!
Judging by the size of the estate, I'd say he won't even notice the grand. But I nicer guy I couldn't have dealt with. Just seemed more interested in gaining space than recouping money. My end plan will be to keep the 2006 and sell the 2001 after I've brought it up to scratch. But then again . . .
Yes mate I know the type. In 2008 I bought a 1996 Fireblade with 3500 miles on the clock, full service history and MOT, mint condition for £1000. I knew the guy and I think he just lost the love of Motorbikes and just wanted shut.
@nigelrb when you die, they're going to have a field day at your place. ..Mr. RB's neighbor said, "He was constantly tottering about with a spanner and cleaning rag. Seems only fitting he was found under a bike with a bottle of Mr. Sheen in his hand."
Well @nigelrb best you get cracking on selling one as the wife mentoned* the other day that she may want to sell her NSR this year. *normal disclaimer of woman's right to change her mind
Oooah! I do have more heart for Honda than aprilia too. I'll keep that in mind AND leave the batter off my Spam so I can save more money!! I need no convincing about a woman's right to change her mind. I had 3 who changed their mind about 'for better or for worse'!
how my brain skips about i read "small one's can be fun too according to my wife" and then my brain read " like to see that" i think i better go and get my coat
Yeah, would look better with 99 on it, but I'll live with the old 48. That'll probably be its top speed with me on it.
