Been in cleaning mode. Focused on the rear end today and made three passes of Autosol on the frame. Coming up super bling. Will take footpegs off tomorrow and spend time on front end also. I must say I'm really enjoying this. The thing weighs next to nothing so it's very manoeuvrable. Everything's so small so not much effort required, and parts are plentiful and relatively cheap. All I've ordered so far is a set of fairing fixings because they'll be most visible. I'll look at some silver braided lines also.
First legal bike I had on the road was an rs50 80cc bore kit, bigger jets in the carb along with a full exhaust used pull nearly 80! For a 16 year old it was bloody brilliant. As for the rs125 my mate had that would do nearer 120 and was bloody ballistic. Great fun to ride, just regularly decide to stop and need a new piston and barrel set me on the path to whee I an today though so can't complain
Good to hear that you had one. I'm picking up things like piston/barrel life on the Ape forum. I'm fortunate that mine had a full rebuild in 2015, but was then abandoned to storage. I'm obviously doing all oil and fluid changes while the fairings are off and will have to set about a proper running-in period. It makes sense that if one is riding a 50cc at an average of 8 -10,000 revs and carrying around anything from 70 to 90-plus kilos, we're not going to see huge mileages. However, I am much more excited about this little thing than I ever was over my short-lived C90.
Looks surprisingly tidy @nigelrb bet it's great fun to work on!! It's bringing back memories of my RS250 that I really should have kept hold of.....absolute screamer and a thing of beauty! I miss you
nigel you can not beat a c50 or c90 how about this one he was going down the A14 in full netted camo like his helmet
Had a c90 aswell when I was around 11, learnt about when to change gear on that before confusing things with a clutch
What a piece of work that is. The only C90 in it is the pressed frame and fuel tank. Swing arm is interesting. I'm guessing it's an early one and therefore exempt from MoT. Ah, so you were a real aprilia dovetee! You'd mentioned your RSV but I had no idea you'd had the smaller ones too. Good to learn. Shame is you probably couldn't buy and equivalent good one now at a reasonable price. And yes, it is a pleasure to work on. Such a change having room to get at everything. And a piece of piss to move too! In fact it's so small, I might even be able to squeeze it between the TV and the couch!! The queue would trail a long way behind you I think. As you know, a lot of these small capacity two-strokes are gaining a cult following now. However, if you do consider compromising on capacity, I have a great courier company lined up to transport it. Just don't hold your breath!!
The Rs 250 was my first Aprilia, I had a Gen 1 and a Gen 2 after that. So yeah I supposed you could say I was quite keen on them! The 250 got traded in for a brand new CBR 600 rr back in 2003. I so wish I'd kept it, but I had no idea at the time how rare they would be in today's market!
Thanks for the interest. Spent a short while in the cold today doing the front. I want to put in a big effort tomorrow doing all fluid changes, check air filter and then ATTEMPT to start it. Received my Chinese fairing screw kit and have some appropriate touch-up paint for some small nicks on front guard and rear seat cowl. Also have a nice silver braided brake line to put on the front tomorrow during fluid change. I must say that the front 'Constand' under yoke fitting is a magic device. (Previous owner included BOTH stands in the deal). Never used one before and nor could I justify spending the cash. As others have testified, including @Selmer50mark , they are invaluable for front wheel jobs like this or just for simple cleaning.
Thanks Boothy. You're probably the first person in the world to call a 50cc machine a 'beast'! I'm presently structuring a 30-mile loop on flat roads only.
