Just going to do the shims on my NC30, I have in the distant past used engine oil to lube the shim on replacement.

Mr Haynes suggests using a mix of 50/50 Moly grease and engine oil

Any suggestions from avid shim replacers?

    Thanks

It normally matters how long it's going to be from assembly to start up, as oil will just run away unless started straight away, especially modern synthetic oils.
I'd use Graphogen, Millers engine assembly paste, but any moly grease will be ok.

If you was changing camshafts I'd be more careful.
