I'm just back from the north cormorant, i was on a vessel doing an umbilical lay down, the weather on the way out was like being in the med, then when we were alongside the platform it was fine for the first day then as you are saying mate it turned to pea soup, We did the lay down then back surveyed to the platform laying concrete mats, we were just inside the 500 metre zone and we couldnt see the rig but when we set sail for newcastle it was flat calm and sunny all the way in, the fog seems to bet stuck over shetlands

I don't want to scare you Fletch but the chances are that what you can see out of your porthole is probably dryer than the mainland anyway.
