Ah ok. Is that something that's only in the first few gears that most Gixxers have?

Under the tank.......engine ecu is under the rider seat does it connect to a three wire white plug? Think the wire colours are pink/blue/poss grey wires in connector?

It sounds like a TRE (timing retard eliminator!) it tricks the ECU into thinking the bike is always in 6th gear in order to bypass the electronic timing retardation that's built into the fuel maps in ECU for first 4 gears.
Does not alter rev range the bikes capable of...but in some models it can remove the top speed restrictions on the likes of the busa.

Yup that's the TRE unit I was on about, it basically tricks the bike into thinking your in a higher gear than you are and stops the ECU from using modified fuelling maps that retard the ignition and add more engine braking while in the first 4 gears, speed derestriction is not used on 600/750 bikes.

It is really just a couple of quids worth of electrical components in a plastic box an a sticker flung on it and charged 100 quid for it! The build diagrams are widely in circulation on the web but the main difference is some are gear indicator friendly so still allow the correct gear to be shown on the dash or gear indicator unit rather than what the ECU is being tricked into thinking the bike is in ie sixth gear.

In its most basic form one 20p resistor can do the same job if the gear indicator showing wrong gear is not a concern to the rider!

Well finally got round to buying a track bike today.

Bike is in need of a lil bit of TLC, but nothing that we are not prepared or used to doing.

I may even start a new thread on the making of this bike.

Must admit I've been toying with a track bike, and I had a few questions , does it make you a better rider, cost etc. but what is the best bike to choose, seen a 954 blade, Gsxr 750, or a 600 ninja?

    Hi mate

It will definitely make you a better rider, and give you more confidence.

Price wise it'll come down to your budget. I set mine at £3k max and seen a few that were of interest.
Personally I was looking for a GSXR 750 because of my size, or I would have had a 600.

That's not to say you can't jump on a bigger bike though, because at the end of the day it's you right hand that controls the bike not the other way around.

I was all for buying a forum members friends GSXR until another bike turned up.
I think it may still be up for sale. It also is a GSXR 750

A track bike won't make you a better rider. Riding on track and exploring the limits of a bike will make you a better rider. Having a bike on track that you aren't so concerned about crashing will help you push the limits even more.
