Yes, that is what will happen if the government enforce a 80% reduction in CO2 emissions on the UK population - 80% reduction is not life carrying on as normal, and will require a huge loss of personal freedom. They knew that when it was brought into law. Personal property, freedom of the individual are anathema to socialist central government - bit by bit, using whatever excuses come to hand, those things will be reduced. Despite the stuffy assurances of Oxford academics and intellectuals - cannot happen here ? It will if you let it - and time will tell.

I'm sorry but not in the UK. The majority are a bunch of pricks but we choose them end of. We don't like what they do we get rid of them. The EU definitely is like you describe but I think we might be on the cusp of getting out of that vipers nest.
Governments/Councils want to cut emissions but at they same time they reduce the flow of traffic with bus lanes, traffic calming and lane removal, whilst they also decrease speed limits effectively increasing the amount of time vehicles are on the roads. As for President Khan his plans are a joke. Buses spend so much time running on diesel around my office that they may as well not have a battery option. With the exemptions for black cabs as well the whole thing is just a giant pisstake designed to extract money from Joe Public.
I just don't agree with this big conspiracy theory that governments are trying to hold people back, inhibit our freedom, keep us unaware. It's bollocks. Reading too much claptrap on the Internet.
Because things move relatively slowly we are under the impression that nothing is really changing very radically, just natural progress - as if the changes that we observe are natural. The other thing that you do not realise is the extent to which socialism/the left is undermining western society. They have a history and a track record of this, so it is not just paranoia - millions dead. In the real world, not the internet, your govt and mine (and many others) do things behind the curtain. They wage wars, they kill people, they position leaders to make decisions that benefit them. None of this is done in the interest of your personal freedom. it is done to keep them positioned at the top of the food chain. Why do you think we are so concerned with the Muslim world? Religion? Freedom? Oil. Tell me I'm wrong and I'll show you I'm right.
I get very interested in subjects and read everything I can - not to preach, but to understand for myself. That is why I don't care whether you believe me or not - up to you. It actually has more to do with huge arms companies than oil. You are getting yourself mixed up whilst trying to maintain your sniper/armed forces/secret agent persona. I know shady things go on, Russians and foreign nationals are killed on British soil most weeks which is quite clearly more than an accident. But this doesn't equate to govts trying to remove our freedom by stopping us being able to drive ourselves round in our cars. Anyway, difference of opinion.
