IT Consultant... Although I was until about 2 months ago also a licensed Tae Kwon Do Instructor in the TAGB (2nd Dan Black Belt). Gave that one up because of the requirement to commute to the city every day for real work.
i chuck shit at walls all day , occasionally getting a call from a desperate house wife needing a big ol' crack sorting out also renovating the odd house with a mate. just in process of building one in a plot of land we got
I'm a police officer, after an earlier career change in my mid-thirties. I'm on what we call 'response' which is what you generally get when you call 999. It means I see all sorts of jobs; there's a massive variety in the workload. In the past, I've worked in IT - various different roles including software development, consultancy and support. I couldn't ever go back to IT; towards the end I was keen to get out. I love my job now - it's always challenging, but very rewarding when you know you've made a difference to someone.
Used to wear green and brown when I left school. Trained in Electronics for the same mob as the spanner wanker lobotomy tiffy , he'll know who I mean but will probably have joined well after I left. Since then I have basically been in IT for 20 years. Started off in PC World when they used to have a proper tech department, then worked my way up from deskside support to servers and stuff as both permie and contractor/consultant. Last 8 years or so I've mainly been doing support for web servers, mainly IIS based stuff with the associated software and infrastructure. Managed to avoid the architect role for now as I prefer getting my hands dirty, figuratively speaking. Currently the kids say I make it rain due to my current title being Cloud Engineer. Not overly exciting as the infrastructure angle is covered by Amazon, but lots of scripting which I enjoy, and it pays the bills. Always looking for new opportunities though, and hope to get closer to home and remove my 120 mile a day commute.
That's a bit of a blessing that is mate! Wish I could get into scripting but it fries my brain everytime I try to! I work for a software house which owns a piece of bespoke financial software used by many of the big banks worldwide. I provide support/fix it when it breaks. Lots of shift work (can't stand the 9-5 grind) and weekend pager support, along with a hefty pay packet, although can't say for how much longer as I have an inkling they're gonna shift the support out to India in the none too distant future. My first real taste of the corporate world and man oh man it's a bitter place. Everything seems coated in a veneer of lies, corruption and front. What I wouldn't give to be in the Australian countryside living a simple life...
Left school wore a green and brown tracksuit for a bit then joined Police 1996, left 2008 after seeing the light LMFAO (Boss was an utter c***), no, only joking; left because was given a job/career opportunity as a Close protection Officer in Sweden and have been involved with similar work ever since. At this precise moment am sitting in my office in Nigeria.............awesome. Back home beginning July when I pick up my new baby.........
Working for Aunty Liz in the Royal Air Force. By trade I'm a communications technician but I'm currently undertaking a tour as a recruit training instructor.
I missed this first time round.... I am an account/project manager within the IT industry working for a specialist firm employed by large corporates to design/install/maintain/upgrade IT network infrastructure. I have many titles but none anymore useful or exciting than the others. Trained up originally as a fibre optic technician, but then moved on to most cable types, have been to some fantastic and appalling locations and now run a team at a well known broadcaster and mainly feel like the parent or spoilsport when it comes to my team.
PCB designer .... Those electronic things in your PC / Laptop / Phone ... everywhere! Someones gotta do it !!! Bah !
