Very open question, but looking for other ideas for 5 day trip to Germany in June next year. Have done the Eifel area and the B500/B48. Have also done the Route Napoleon and other areas in France. Need some ideas as prefer Germany to France.
Went down the Mosel valley & stayed just outside Cochem, lovely area with some cracking roads & not to far from the the Ring, good area for wine as well!!!!

Been through Germany a few times, but not to Germany specifically. Five days you say. I would start by working it out on the basis of 250 miles a day total 1,250 miles or radius of 625 miles from the ferry port, as you obviously have to come back. Personally 250 miles a day is a reasonable comfortable average for a tour, if you just want to go and ride your bike and take in the sights, and some of the smaller roads - sure we can all do more if we spend 10 hours a day on a motorway. With that look at what you want to do within that range, and look at a topographical map - some of Germany is fairly flat wheat fields, which is all right I suppose. The mountains are in the south. You could choose to meander your way down to Lake Constanz and then a big dash back. There is the massively long Arlberg road tunnel near there, on the Austrian side, near Bregenz - one of the longest road tunnels in the World. Germany's highest point, is near there as well - you could ride down and check it out. Lake Constanz itself is beautiful but it drains time. Because of the incredibly low speed limits around lots of the lake road, you may have to be careful because you can spend all day and cover a tiny distance. Also you may stop and take pictures. So be aware that the road looks all very nice riding round the lake but every little urban section can have 30k speed limits ! I found that it is certainly possible to cover distance quickly in Germany but it can be hard work - have a great time and let us know what ideas you come up with ! Picture taken last summer on the German side of Lake Constanz on the way to Austria, with Switzerland on the other side of the lake, and Austrian mountains in the distance on the left : In front of Lake Constance-1 by 660 Mattie, on Flickr
Another option is 'the romantic road' which takes you down towards Munich. Also southern German alps is lovely, good passes / scenery , google Garmisch-Partenkirchen where BMW hold a huge bike festival, loads of good routes and round there
Thanks for all the information Ramsey, certainly looks like some interesting roads, how does the area differ from the Eifel region, have done the 500 and one of Jimbos favourites the 48. Without looking on a map, is a base for 1st night stopover in the region doable in a day from Calais?
If you don't want to do the Black Forest or the Eifel again, the Sauerland (around Winterberg) or the Hunsrück south of the Mosel are best suited regions for a stopover. Taunus or Spessart are also a possibility. Calais -> Sauerland 552 Km https://www.google.de/maps/dir/Cala...60fc4a2a88d0!2m2!1d8.5275766!2d51.1935378!5i1 Calais -> Hunsrück 524 Km https://www.google.de/maps/dir/Cala...2d4d510dafc70!2m2!1d7.538536!2d49.9848516!3e0 Calais -> Taunus 584 Km https://www.google.de/maps/dir/Cala...435029b09d00!2m2!1d8.4422899!2d50.2696397!3e0 Calais -> Spessart 692 Km https://www.google.de/maps/dir/Cala...b728f0620b90!2m2!1d9.3431523!2d49.8580743!3e0 All other regions are probably too far for a day trip. That's some top quality information there Ramsey. Really fancy a trip to Germany in the near future and this looks great. @Jimbo Vills fancy it??
From the pics I've seen Ramsay post and my limited knowledge of the areas you could have some serious good riding on those mate.... IMHO it'd blow Spain out the water.....
