Unfortunately as I bought my bike mid-winter I wasn't able to treat here before the gloom set in and like many others, I'm now thinking about how I best go about a deep clean including a number of bolts and brake line fittings suffering the dreaded furring.

Those that know me will know I have a slight OCD about these things so want to restore that showroom shine; I'm not adverse to replacing some parts and starting the process over with ACF-50 but wondering if anyone had any tricks or tips to remove the furring first as clearly i'd prefer not to spend out a load of cash to replace something purely for cosmetic reasons.

Any tips or product recommendations gratefully received?

    Thanks :)

You have to be very judicious in its use, it bu**ers plastic and's not the best on rubber but you can't beat cellulose thinners for a cut when cleaning. I think you will find it a match for your fur.

ACF50 will coat the bolts, stopping the furring. I had 2 bolts fur up, i replaced them with stainless ones. I got a whole kit off ebay for £50 and eventually replaced all of them.
